Bee Friends
The more we learn about bees, the more amazing we realise they are, and the more we wanted to help them.
If you do some Googling, it won’t take you long to realise that the bees are in a bit of sticky situation worldwide … pesticides, climate change, mono-crops and air pollution (not to mention some dodgy practices in large scale commercial operations) are taking their toll and wild bee populations have plummeted. The documentary ‘Queen of the Sun‘ does a fantastic job at explaining the issues. For another great article check out this one on Porch by Daniela González.

We wanted to encourage organic, natural beekeeping based on permaculture principles, so over 2015-2016 we ran a ‘Bee Friends’ hive sponsorship club, and sponsored 14 hives for Kiwi families and schools all over the North Island. Seaside Bees in Tauranga built all the hives by hand. See some of the bee hives in action on our blog.
